Modernization of the C&F Manufacturing Processes
The AAF Consortium develops new processes and provides technical support for Alternative Casting and Forging processes leveraging metal Additive/Hybrid/Convergent Manufacturing processes. Processes of interest include: 1) High Deposition Rate Direct Energy Deposition, 2) Cold Spray AM, 3) Wire-Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM), 4) Additive friction-stir manufacturing (AFS), 5) Hybrid/Convergent manufacturing processes that combine metal AM with rolling, forging, pressing, and other mechanical and ultrasonic vibration mechanisms to alter grain structures and improve properties, 6) Intelligent Robotic Casting and Forging for Defense alloys, by working with America’s Cutting Edge (ACE) and ARM Institute.
